Christmas Collection Blog Hop Day #2 - Wreath Runner & Wall Hanging

The wall hanging completes the ensemble to make your decor the envy of the neighborhood.  Instead of the brighter Christmas greens and reds, I opted for more muted and darker fabrics when I made these samples.

Christmas Collection Blog Hop Day #1 - Let's Gather Table Runner

Welcome to Masterpiece Quilting's Christmas Collection Blog Hop!  For the next two weeks, myself and an incredibly talented group of bloggers will be sharing projects from my book with you.

Actually, the traditional Christmas version wasn't my first pick of colors for Let's Gather.  Originally I designed it as a Fall table runner.  The single pattern is available for pdf download in my Bluprint store or as both pdf and paper pattern in my Etsy store where I also have kits available for this version.

While we are basking in Summer's heat here in the Midwest, it's the perfect time to think about Fall and Christmas decor.  In less than a month, the kiddos will be back to school, the fall decor will be coming out of storage and Christmas will be hitting retailers shelves!  Yikes!  I know, I'm rushing the seasons as my Grandma would say. 

Well you can get a start on your Christmas decor with the fun Peppermint Twist quilt that I have designed which is in the Autumn 2019 issue of Quilter's World magazine.  

You know this design is special when both of my pooches are giving it their paw of approval!  Zoey, top, is reading through the pattern, while Lilly, lower right, is making admiring the magazine photo!  It's a rarity that they two are actually posed at the same time, so I had to share ! 

Peppermint Twist was inspired by the traditional red and green candies available during the Holidays.  The pinwheel center mimics the twist in the center of the candies and the half-square triangles at the diagonal ends of each block are reflective of the tightly twisted cellophane wraps.  

At 57" x 76",  Peppermint Twist is the perfect size for a twin guest room bed or a snuggle quilt for Christmas guests.  

Warm 80/20 batting was graciously provided by The Warm Company for the sample quilt. 

Spring Summer 2019 Island Batik Designs

At Spring Quilt Market, Island Batik is showcasing their Spring Summer 2019 collection to quilt shops and buyers. I'm honored to be an Island Batik Designer and have three of my designs made in hanging in the booth. 

Spiked Punch is made from the Clockworks Collection by Kathy Engle. I love the warm color pallette in this quilt. 

Pearly Dresdens is one of my favorite designs and it is made from the Black Pearl collection by Kathy Engle.  It's a mix of patchwork and raw-edge fusible applique. 

Seaside Runner is made from the Magical Reef collection by Kathy Engle.  Purple is my favorite color and pairing it with green is always a good combination.  A bit of fussy-cutting highlights the fabric designs.

The 100 Day Project

If you follow me on social media, you know that I am participating in The 100 Day Project.  

What is The 100 Day Project? It is an opportunity for participants to select a theme, make and share for 100 days.  The focus is not a fancy finished product, but to go thru the process of making on a daily basis.

I am posting on Instagram (@masterpiecequilting) which automatically shares to my Masterpiece Quilting Facebook page.  

For my 100 Day Project, I'm sketching.  This is something that is new to me and a really big step since in the past I have labelled my stick figures just so people knew what I was trying to draw!  100 days is a long time and I'm already discovering that it takes a lot of commitment.  

I'm sharing my first 5 sketches here. 

I seem to have a floral and fauna theme happening, but I'm not intentionally drawing them.  I'm just drawing whatever I feel like at the moment.  Which is kinda freeing since I work with so many deadlines.

April 2019 Monthly Color Challenge

There is nothing like starting Spring off right by playing with color.  It's wet, cold and gray in Northern Indiana as I write this blog post and I'm desperately in need of color and sun!  Lots and lots of sun!  

After an amazing time being part of Jen's Monthly Color Challenge in 2018, I'm participating in March and April of this year. 

I had a lot of fun making this month's Glory of the Snow block and it uses just two fabrics in my favorite color blue! 

In my post about last month's block, I shared my challenge with making blue blocks from my stash.  Fortunately, I was able to find these two blues that coordinate nicely and really make the design pop.

2019 Monthly Color Challenge

After an amazing time being part of Jen's Monthly Color Challenge in 2018, I'm participating in March and April of this year. 

I had a lot of fun making this month's Love in a Mist block and I learned a lot about my stash too!  Apparently navy is a color that I don't have much of. 

Maybe it's because I really like blue and I tend to use a lot of blue, but I really struggled to find a dark navy.  Or it could be a sign that my studio needs cleaning and reorganizing.  (yep - it's the latter, but don't tell anyone!)

Anyway, my lighter color could have been darker but I think these two colors make a pretty dashing block!
