Petal Power Quiltalong

I'm so excited to share that I'll be leading a Quiltalong for my Petal Power Quilt in the Annie's Quilting Facebook Group starting February 15th!

If you aren't familiar with Petal Power, it's one of my latest designs and it's the Spring 2021 issue of Quilter's World magazine.  Here's the link to my original blog post in case you missed it.

We are going to have so much fun during this Quiltalong!  As I'm taking you step-by-step through how to make the quilt top, I'll be sharing my tips and tricks for success.

We will be starting on Monday February 15th with a Facebook Live at 12 noon EST in Annie's Quilting Group.  If you aren't already a member, click here to join.   And don't worry if you aren't available at that specific time, the replay of my presentation will be available for you to watch at your convenience later.

What do you need to participate?

You will need the pattern which is in the Spring 2021 issue of Quilter's World Magazine.  If you aren't a subscriber, check your local quilt shop or newsstand for a copy or purchase online here.

If you want to make your version using the same beautiful fabrics I used, look for a retailer that carries the Solid-ish Watercolor Texture Collection by Kimberly Einmo for Timeless Treasures fabric company.  The yardage needed is listed in the pattern.

We will be using raw-edge fusible applique to make the petal block, so you will also need fusible web with paper release.  I used Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 from The Warm Company.

I look forward for February 15th and can't wait to quilt with you.  As you are selecting your fabrics or purchasing your magazine, be sure to share a photo in Annie's Quilting Group and feel free to tag me at @masterpiecequilting

And I almost forgot!  If you have any friends who you would love to make this quilt with, be sure to invite them.  Quilting with friends is the best!

Happy Hearts Mug Rug - Perfect for Valentine's Day Gifting

I'm on a Valentine's Day kick this year.  I'm not sure why but I'm having fun designing patterns that are related to hearts and Valentine's Day.

I just added my Happy Hearts Mug Rug pattern - both PDF digital download and Print version (shipping included) to my Etsy shop.  This pattern had previously only been available thru the Craftsy / Bluprint shop that closed so I'm excited to have it listed again.

I originally designed this mug rug when I was an Island Batik brand ambassador, so the first version was made in batiks but it works perfectly for quilting cottons as well.  I'm working on a second version made with red and pink quilting cotton.

(Don't look too close, I have two of the same fabrics touching - which bugs me - so I need to un-stitch, flip a row around & restitch.  Does same fabric touching bother anyone else in a scrappy project, or is it just me?)

I really like this mug rug because it's a bit oversized so there is plenty of room for a beverage and a snack.

I'm making several mug rugs and am planning on giving them as Valentine's Day presents - just for fun.  They will be easy to make using stash fabrics and easy to mail to friends with a quick note and some candy.

Get your pattern today and see how many you can have made by Valentine's Day!

I send out a weekly Masterpiece Quilting Studio News email full of quilting tips, techniques, new product releases and other quilty goodness.  I'd love to deliver it directly to your inbox.  Click here to sign up.  And as always, your email is safe with me.

Fabulous Flannels!

If you have a chill in the air, flannels make the perfect quilt to snuggle under.

We have a raggy-shaggy flannel blanket (technically not a quilt, since it doesn't have any batting) that seems to be everyone's go-to coverup when watching TV.  It's queen sized so there is plenty of room for people and pooches too!

I've just updated the flannels that I have available in my Etsy shop and I wanted to share them with you.

12 Fat Quarter Bundle of Autumnal flannels - perfect for the rustic decor.

If Beautiful Bouquets looks familiar, it was the Cover Quilt on the Spring 2020 issue of Quilters World magazine.  You can read all about the quilt here in my original post from last year.

Yesterday we had a bit of sun in the early morning, so I ran outside with the quilt to grab some photos.  Don't look too close because there is still frost on the ground!

Just looking at this quilt makes me smile!  While we have had a mild winter so far in Indiana, I'm already getting spring fever, looking at seed catalogs and checking out new flowers to plant in all sorts of luscious colors.

If your stash is needing a boost to make this quilt, be sure to check out the bundles in my Etsy shop.  I have a 12 fat quarter spring bundle that would be perfect for this quilt as well as an 18 fat quarter bundle of Michael Miller solids.

I'd love to see the version you make.  When sharing on social media, be sure include #masterpiecequilting

Petal Power in Spring 2021 Quilter's World Magazine

I'm super excited to share my Petal Power quilt with you!  The pattern is available in the Spring 2021 issue of Quilter's World magazine.   If you haven't received your copy yet, here is a direct link to purchase it.

Petal Power is a fun throw-size quilt that mixes raw-edge fusible applique flowers with simple Nine-Patch blocks.  The color placement within the nine-patches creates a secondary trellis pattern.  As you know, I love quilts with secondary patterns and this quilt is full of them.

To make the quilt, I selected fabrics from the Solid-ish Watercolor Texture collection by Kimberly Einmo for Timeless Treasures.  Solid-ish is one of my favorite tonal collections with its deep saturated colors.

For the raw-edge fusible applique, I used Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 from The Warm Company as well as Soft & Bright batting from The Warm Company.

If the winter blues are starting to get to you, this is the perfect quilt to make to brighten your day and your sewing room!  Get the pattern today and by the time Spring arrives you will be ready to greet it with a brand new quilt.

The Blue & White Quilts of Winter

Believe it or not, but winter quilts are my favorites.  I simply love blue and white quilts.  In fact, when I'm designing I normally use blue and white for the colors and then switch out the colors once I have the design finalized.

After all the warmth of traditional red, green and gold of the holidays it's nice to switch to a cooler palette.  And if you are someone who decorates with blue, white and silver then winter quilts can be a perfect alternative.  Plus they can stay out so much longer to enjoy.

Here are a few of my favorite winter quilts.

Starry Sky - this has always been on of my favorite quilts.  Stunning batiks really make this throw-sized quilt that depicts the night sky with elegant star blocks nested inside a criss-crossing chain that extends into the border.

The Starry Sky pattern is available as both print and pdf versions for your convenience.

And if you prefer a white background instead of dark, check out this version of Starry Sky made with light, medium and dark aquas.

Fractured is reminiscent of broken glass with the sharp fractured edges of the block refracting around the setting squares to create multiple secondary patterns.  Partial blocks create the pieced border and extend the design across the quilt.

The Fractured pattern is also available as both print and pdf digital download versions for your convenience.

Luck of the Irish truly epitomizes when less is more.  This blue and white version of a single Irish chain is a quilters dream with big wide borders for lots and lots of feathers.

The Luck of the Irish pattern is available at this time as only a pdf digital download.  (Print options coming soon!)

Here's a close-up of the quilting.

And if you are wondering why the cover photo isn't the best .... this happens every time I try to take a new photo :)

Blossom - Breaking up the Winter Blahs

The Christmas décor has come down and the house is looking blah, for the lack of a better descriptive word.  It's dreary outside and I'm in need of some color to freshen things up.  I designed and made "the original" Blossom wall hanging back in 2018 when I was an Island Batik brand ambassador.   You can read the original blog post here

I wanted to freshen the colors up a bit so I remade the wall hanging over the holidays.   I'm excited to share the "remake" Blossom that is made with quilting cottons.

The remake is similar but different.  I'm not sure which one I like best?  Leave me a comment with your favorite.

If you are wanting to brighten up with decor with some Blossoms - patterns and kits are available in my Etsy shop.  Here are some direct links for your convenience.
