Sneak Peek #1 - Ohio Star Block REMIX Challenge

For Sneak Peek #1 of my Ohio Star Block, I'm adding a few elements and changing up some color placement.

In case you missed, last week's blog post will give you more details about the block REMIX challenge.

I deliberately positioned the lighter & brighter yellow and orange colors in the center and the darker colors around the edges to make the center appear to be floating over the rest of the block!

I truly love the opportunity to play and experiment with different blocks as part of the REMIX challenge.  I'm going to keep playing with this block, so be sure to watch for next week's Sneak Peek #2.

Each Monday, the participating designers are sharing about the challenge on their Instagram feeds.  Some of us are adding other social media too.   If you don't already follow me on Instagram, I'm @masterpiecequilting

Here is the list of Instagram handles of the participating designers.  Each of us are sharing our fabric pull and / or color scheme this week.

January Block REMIX Challenge: Ohio Star

For the month of January, we are REMIXING the traditional Ohio Star quilt block

In 2021, we had the monthly Block Re-Imagined Challenge where each month a group of designers would independently re-work a specific block and share it with everyone.  Good News - it's continuing in 2022 just under a new name - the Block Remix Challenge.

This week we are posting our fabric pulls.  Since it's kinda dreary outside - it's January in Indiana - I'm opting for some bright solids.  This fat quarter bundle from Michael Miller should spice things up.

If you loving this bundle as much as I do, here's a direct link to purchase it.

Here are links to take a look at the quilts I made during the Snowball Block Challenge, the Rail Fence Block Challenge, the Pinwheel Block Challenge, the Log Cabin Block Challenge, the Churn Dash Block Challenge, the Five Patch Chain Block Challenge, the Ocean Waves Block Challenge, the Strip Star Block Challenge and the Dutchman's Puzzle Block Challenge.  I have free patterns available for the quilts I made in the Rail Fence block challenge and Log Cabin block challenge.  Links are in the respective blog posts.

Each Monday, the participating designers are sharing about the challenge on their Instagram feeds.  Some of us are adding other social media too.   If you don't already follow me on Instagram, I'm @masterpiecequilting

2022 Annie's Quilting Calendar

What is a better way to start 2022 than as a calendar girl?

Well, technically, my quilt design is a calendar quilt.  Okay, it's not exactly the same thing but it's probably as close as I'll come to being a calendar girl :)

I just received Annie's 2022 Quilting Calendar and my Simply Sophisticated Table Runner is gracing the cover.  Doesn't it look stunning?

If you aren't familiar with it, Annie's Quilting Calendar features a different quilt of the month as well as complete instructions for making the project.   If you haven't purchased your calendar yet - it's not too late.  Here's a direct link to order one.

Since my Simply Sophisticated Table Runner is made using a patriotic colorway it is the July quilt of the month.  It's perfect for a summer picnic at the park or even to spread across the tailgate for an impromptu buffet while watching fireworks.

I designed the runner so it is a stash / scrap friendly project so you can make one quickly.  And don't be limited by my colorway choice - you can pick fabrics that match your decor, match any season or match the favorite colors of someone you might gift it to.

There are several projects in the calendar that I've added to make "want to make" list, so be sure to check it out and get yours today.

And when you make your own version of Simply Sophisticated, I'd love to see it.  Just use #masterpiecequilting or #annies when sharing on social media.

And, as if you need yet another reason to order, there are some amazing coupon codes and special shipping offers in the calendar too!  You don't want to miss those!

Perky Pig Quilt Block - Quilt Block Mania

The theme for this month's Quilt Block Mania is Pets and why not a pet pig!

Growing up on a livestock farm, I was the kid who tried to make a pet out of all the animals.  It worked well except for one bull who had anti-social issues but that's a different story for a different day :)

I'd love to introduce you to Perky Pig!

He's fun, he's happy and he is completely made using raw-edge fusible applique techniques.

One of my goals as a quilt pattern designer is to increase my skills using raw-edge fusible applique to design more complex patterns.  This was a great start.

The pattern for my Perky Pig Block is available for free using the link below.

I'd love to see the version you make.  Be sure to share on social media using #perkypigblock and #masterpiecequilting

An entire group of designers have been working with this same theme and here is a sampling of the blocks they have made!  Aren't they gorgeous?

Below are the links to each of the blocks.

Did you know there is a Quilt Block Mania facebook group where you can share your finished block and see the blocks other quilters have made?  It's a great community and I invite you to join.  Here's the direct link.
