Christa Watson's Fandangle Fabric Blog Hop + Giveaway!

I was super excited when Christa Watson invited me to be part of the Blog Hop sharing her new fabric line Fandangle available from Benartex Contempo.   I first saw the fabric in person at Spring Quilt Market in May and absolutely loved it.  I'm so excited that it is shipping to stores now so others can enjoy it too.  (Hint: Remind your local quilt shop to order it if they haven't already!)

I immediately knew what I wanted to make.  Using a few of the block patterns available in my latest book The Simple Sampler, I wanted to make a 1-block pillow and a 3-block bed runner.  Fandangle's colors are much brighter and have more pattern, more sparkle, more depth than the fabrics I used to make the book's sample quilts - so I was anxious to see how well the fabrics would work in my block patterns.  And they worked beautifully - don't you think?

Fandangle's prints are broken into warm and cool color groups.

I used the warm oranges, reds and dark gray for the pillow and opted for the cool teals and greens for the bed runner but also paired them with the dark gray for the background.  I wanted the pillow and the runner to look like they went together, so I felt using the same dark gray in both pieces would help achieve that goal.

Block #2 of The Simple Sampler

Closest to furthest: Block #12, Block #10 and Block #1 of The Simple Sampler
An awesome feature of Fandangle is the ability to fussy-cut it - after all who doesn't love a fussy-cut :)

I fussy-cut the Beaded Curtain print so the stripes rotate in the pinwheel center of the Block #10.

In Block #1, I fussy-cut the Sparkling Squares print so it lines up perfectly with the piecing. Sure fussy-cutting takes a little more time, but the custom look is so worth it!

This will be a busy and hopefully inspiring week of Fandangle-ness!  Be sure to check out and follow all the other bloggers who are sharing their beautiful projects in the blog hop too.

To stay up-to-date on the projects I'm working on, be sure to follow this blog by entering your email on the right, or by liking Masterpiece Quilting on Facebook or IG: @masterpiecequilting

And if you have made it this far in my blog post, leave a comment telling me about a project you would like to make using Fandangle.  On Sunday July 22, 2018 I will select one lucky winner who will receive a bundle of 8 Fandangle Fat Quarters from Benartex.  Unfortunately, due to shipping costs, the prizes are only available to US entries.

  77. First, I want to tell you that I love the bedrunner that you made. It is one of the favorite things that I have seen thus far. I'm not easy to impress either. I see lots of things I like and save lots of free patterns and yet know that I'll never make them - this is one of the things I'd really like to make and I've never made a bedrunner. This is stunning. Second, with winnings of a bundle, I'd make a graduation quilt for my step granddaughter. She will be graduating from high school in May 2019. She is a budding artist and wants to be an art therapist. I'm determined to make her a quilt. I plan to applique (fusible) her name on the back so hopefully there will be less chance of theft if she takes the quilt to college with her. I'm sorry that I have to think about that and I do need to think about it. Thanks for the wonderful post.

  78. I would love to make a bed runner with the bundle and hope that it is in the fabrics that you used... We have cold winters and a bed runner would be perfect for those cold winter nights...
